An explicit choice
Find Private iCloud sync in Household or Privacy and storage. Check the displayed sync status and Last synced time rather than assuming a signed-in account proves a successful sync.
Your photos can leave the device
Photos stay local until you choose private sync or a shared export. Sharing a place grants its participants access to the included data.
Deletion has separate controls
Delete all local data, Delete your places from iCloud, and Leave shared places perform different operations. Review the relevant control before confirming.
Use it with your own checklist
