Your existing accessory
Set up the lock in Apple's Home app first. In Check options, choose Apple Home, load your accessories, and bind the intended lock to the item.
Fresh and reachable matters
The guided step needs a fresh, reachable Locked report before you can accept that state. A cached report does not become fresh because a refresh failed.
Read only
The app never sends a lock or unlock command. Apple Home's report and your personal confirmation stay distinct in the record.

The app records what you checked. It does not lock doors, switch off appliances, or verify their physical state.
